Inspired by my own healing journey navigating being a polydactyl human in a time and space in human history in which the normal “treatment” for this “condition” is the removal of the extra limbs - which in the long run leads to a lifetime of phantom pains and inflammation similar to the wounds of veterans that have lost limbs in battle.
The eyes in the background represent opinions by people in the sidelines who don’t have this condition and will never know what it is like - yet - like to dictate what we should or shouldn’t do with it.
I created this piece with hopes to spread awareness for the advocacy of the discontinuation of the treatment of removal and instead advocate for acceptance and conscious existence vs mutilation in order to achieve partial acceptance into society. Instead of forcing us to remove part of ourselves to fit in - can’t we just fit in without needing to sacrifice our literal limbs in the process?
